Cranbrook Reservoir Extension Scheme
Construction of a 10 million litre reservoir on land adjacent South East Water’s existing water storage site at Glassenbury Road.
Key Benefits
- The roof of the storage reservoir has been grassed over and the land has been restored to its original, pre-construction, condition.
- The new service reservoir has effectively doubled the amount of water that can be stored at the site – some 21 million litres in total.
- A temporary access road was installed for the duration of the contract to minimise disruption.
The project was constructed of reinforced concrete, with internal columns and was built partially below ground level, surrounded by grassed embankments to minimise its visual impact.
The reservoir is needed to provide extra storage capacity to help ensure continuous supplies to the region, which has suffered from water shortages in the past, especially during periods of hot weather and droughts.
