History

Despite our continuing growth and ambitions for the future, Dean & Dyball remains the approachable and friendly company it has always been.
Established by John Dean and Peter Dyball, our first office opened in 1970. Based in Burley, this isn't far from where our Ringwood office, on the edge of the New Forest, is today.
The company became established as a civil engineering contractor along the south coast during the 1970s before taking the first steps into building and property development. In the early 80s, our first marina development was built at Shamrock Quay, quickly followed by a number of other Mediterranean style marina villages including Hythe Marina Village and Ocean Village Marina.
In 1990 the company incorporated rail into its portfolio of experience successfully completing its first contract for the British Railways Board.
During a sustained period of organic growth during the late 90s and 00s, the company expanded to a point where turnover was approaching £300M, staff numbers exceeded 1200 and operations were run from seven principal regional and divisional offices. A number of additional support offices served to expand the company's geographical spread and regional strength.
In March 2008, Dean & Dyball was sold to Balfour Beatty plc, ending the Dyball family's association with the business. For Balfour Beatty, the acquisition of Dean & Dyball was a further key step in its strategy to extend its UK regional civil engineering and building businesses.
With building operations being transferred to the Balfour Beatty companies of Mansell and Cowlin, Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering provides a strong, established presence across the south of England and Wales, in civil engineering markets where Balfour Beatty previously had little coverage.
