School/College Leavers: Apprentices and Trainees

Dean and Dyball employees in hard hats

On leaving full time education you will have a number of options open to you. You should think carefully as to which one will suit your personal interests and approach best.

APPRENTICES, TRAINEES and NVQs

You may be keen to gain a trade skill. Dean and Dyball offers apprenticeships in a variety of disciplines and as an apprentice, we will sponsor you to attend college on a day or block release basis. You will gain on site experience with us that will provide you with the ‘evidence’ you need to gain a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at the end of your course.

However, we know that some people will prefer to work full time whilst working towards valuable qualifications that prove their competence. We can help you do this too, through our in-house NVQ assessment centre. As a trainee, your NVQ will be achieved through on site training and assessment, which means it is all done during the working day so you don’t attend college.

Our NVQs are available in a range and growing number of options including general construction operations, plant maintenance, supervision, management and specialist skills such as structural concreting, piling and diamond drilling.

Having achieved an NVQ you will be granted either a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card or Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) card. These cards prove your skills, ability to work to industry standards, and health and safety awareness.

Once you have an NVQ this could be a stepping stone to higher levels of qualifications and professional memberships.

TRAINEES and HIGHER EDUCATION DAY RELEASE

If you are interested in working as a civil engineer, construction manager or quantity surveyor, you could chose to start work and attend part time education in pursuit of a relevant HNC, HND or degree. Whilst gaining practical work experience, and by showing yourself to have the required drive, passion and motivation, we will sponsor you to attend a day release programme at college or university one day a week.
